Records & Books

Moby Disc Records grew from a store on Victory Boulevard in the early 1970s into a small chain, with stores at 14410 Ventura in Sherman Oaks and on Topanga Canyon in Canoga Park, and closed in 2001. Its sleeves carried a whale spouting a record: "A Whale of a Store!"

Dutton's Books opened at Laurel Canyon and Magnolia in North Hollywood on New Year's Day 1961, selling books and art, "New-Old & Rare, Bought & Sold," as the rooftop sign said. The North Hollywood store closed in 2006.
